Hi Joan and other members! What a terrific idea, Joan, staring an SEL group on the school leadership site! I am also looking forward to attending the forum on May 12th!

Thanks, Sharon! The LI SEL Forum will host a free discussion with Dr. Mark Barth from the State Ed Department on May 12th at 3:35-5:30 PM at the Commack Middle School. We will be discussing the components of a comprehensive sel implementation to help schools prepare for the NY State SEL guidelines which will be out in October 2008. Good to find we have a professional network through this venue. Keep up the good work Joan.
I called Laura L (she wasn't in), and sent a very general email to gauge Nassau BOCES' temperature on WS BOCES taking the leadership role for SEL. Hope to hear from her tomorrow.
And sorry that I will miss your presentation on the 28th. I'll be in Fairfax, VA visiting w/ my daughter before I attend a weekend (through Monday) meeting for VSAarts in D.C.
Hope you had a wonderful Easter w/ your family,
Carol :-)

The George Lucas Foundation has several videos on their website that I will review. (www.glef.org) Thanks, Mike.

I'm very happy to see that Joan has again taken the lead to establish this new communications tool for this important work. If anyone comes across a video that might be useful for the other members to see, it's very easy to post that video also.

In response to the Children's Mental Health Act of 2006, the New York State Department of Education is developing guidelines for Social Emotional Learning for our NY schools. The LI SEL Forum is dedicated to facilitating the exchange of information about SEL programs, strategies and concepts. We welcome your comments and questions. Joan Fretz
