Online learning for K-12:
Opportunities for students;
Options for school districts;
Virtual schooling. How are you incorporating OL? VHS, FVS, Avanta, ...? Please share what works or what might be promising options for school leaders to consider
Lets share our Success! Do you have a program or initiative that is going well? Have you implemented something with a solid plan you can share? Lets talk about what works!
Lets talk about web 2.0 technologies and their implications for the classroom. For our students the web has already transformed into a participatory environment where they thrive. How can we harness the technology and motivation for the classroom?
Turning data into useful and actionable information - rather than a bureaucratic shackle on the minds of students and teachers - will be the primary challenge of this generation of educational leaders. Join in the discussion.
Tell LI School Leadership a little bit about yourself. Feel free to post your email address and website.
I am a doctoral student at Northcentral University and member of the iNACOL research commitee. I am interested in emerging hybrid models of online learning and how suburban/urban school districts are extending learning time or supplementing the curricula with online courses. I am working on developing proposals for a new school in New York that will incorporate online learning content in 2010. I currently teach graduate courses in educational leadership and school finance. I enjoy following policy issues and understanding how ol may impact school funding allocations in the future. I am also interested in collaborating with others to develop programs around GIS/GPS student designed mobile content. What questions do you have about online learning in urban and suburban areas of New York? TFalsitta@wildblue.net 631-269-2166 (c) 917-586-2815 or on Twitter -- edLeadership
With your interest in Online Learning, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording conducted by Nellie Deutsch on Technology Integration.

Great to hear from everyone! Thanks, for the kind and welcoming responses. Yes! I do believe some of us have met somewhere along the line. I look forward to participating in the workgroups!
Greetings, Tina. I am a friend and colleague of Bill Brennan. I have been a teacher and educational technology leader at Half Hollow Hills, CW Post, and Stony Brook University. I have been integrating WEB 2.0 tools in the classroom and have helped others facilitate the tools in creative ways for their classrooms as well. I am always looking to share creative ideas with others re: web 2.0 tools and welcome your thoughts as well.
P>S> I am currently seeking an Administrative position as Technology Coordinator / Director of Technology on Long Island. Any and all tips are welcome!
Hi Tina, I hear you are big into Secondlife. I am the worse, I can't get my Avatar to stop banging into walls. I gave up. I'm not a big fan of gaming, I still play pacman on my Playstation. It is 3D Pac Man though.
You'll enjoy orientation, it is a time just to practice moving, walking and communicating. Have fun, try flying, laughing, dancing...
Bill asked me to set up a group for discussions about SL. When you have a chance, could you take a look at it and modify it in any ways that you think would be helpful to everyone? Do you have any suggestions for keeping a list of everyone's SL names there? You inspired that idea.
Did you work with Dr. Gartner and Dr. Gardner at Argosy? I think they both came from Argosy.
I did my doctoral studies at Hofstra. Argosy and Walden differ in the course management software they use. I think Walden is rated higher for Education degrees overall, but Argosy is picking up speed. They both offer me the opportunity to share views with people all over the world. Right now I have students in Guam, Alaska, Hawaii, as well as all over the mainland U.S. I really love what I do!
I am taking the online orientation......which I have heard can get cumbersome. Any tips?
